Song of Songs 8

Good morning, Good People! We are leaving town next week; therefore, I will not post any content for the week. We will return to our lessons from the book of Isaiah on August 14th, God willing. If you have an opportunity, begin reading the first few chapters of Isaiah and learn about this prophet’s warnings to the people of Israel.

With that, let’s dig-in to the last chapter of the book of Song of Songs. It highlights the commitment needed in our most important relationships. Here’s a caption, titled “Commitment”, associated with the chapter:

“This ancient poem paints a lovely picture of both married love and the love God desires from his people. In a world where marriage vows are routinely broken and hearts are scarred by infidelity, commitment serves as a seal on our hearts that is never to be broken. It will not allow destructive forces into a marriage, nor will it allow tempting thoughts within us to burst out and manifest themselves in unfaithful actions. A love “as strong as death” is a love committed “till death do us part.” A committed love does not give way when the storms of life cause the floodwaters to rise. This kind of commitment is built carefully through effort, sacrifice, and courage. It is more valuable than any material possession. Have you ever been tempted to give up on a commitment when things got tough? Resolve now, with the Lord’s example as your strength (Matt. 4:1-11), to place a seal of commitment on your most important relationships.” (Wow! This is good! We all know we are to remain committed to our marriages. But in order to do that, we need to have the committed love this passage speaks about. It states that “this kind of commitment is built carefully through effort, sacrifice, and courage.” Unfortunately, many times that kind of love is not being fostered in our relationships because we are too busy tearing down one another. Lord, help us build each other up!)

Now read the chapter for yourself and process your own takeaways.

Lord, thank you for your Word today! Thank you for allowing us to complete this book on committed love. Help us to build “committed love” in our relationship. Give us the courage, endurance, and resolve to put in the work, especially when things get tough. And, Lord, help us understand the power of depositing emotional nuggets into the spirit of our mates with encouragement, affirmation, and adoration. Lord, we love you!

May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)

….AND MAY WE ALL PRACTICE THIS WITH ONE ANOTHER.
