Psalm 142 - A psalm of David, regarding his experience in the cave. A prayer.

Updated: Apr 19, 2023

In this song of praise, David realizes that no one cares about him except for the Lord. Here’s the psalm in its entirety: “I cry out to the Lord; I plead for the Lord’s mercy. I pour out my complaints before him and tell him all my troubles. For I am overwhelmed, and you alone know the way I should turn. (Yes, Lord, if we come to you, you will direct our paths.) Wherever I go, my enemies have set traps for me. I look for someone to come and help me, but no one gives me a passing thought! No one will help me; no one cares a bit what happens to me. Then I pray to you, O Lord. I say, “You are my place of refuge. You are all I really want in life. Hear my cry, for I am very low. Rescue me from my persecutors, for they are too strong for me. (Yes, Lord. Help us recognize that we are no match for our enemies without you! Thank you, Lord!) Bring me out of prison so I can thank you. The godly will crowd around me, for you treat me kindly.” (Psalm 142)

Lord, thank you for your Word today! Help us recognize that our enemies are too strong for us, and to surrender ourselves to you, knowing that you, Lord, are the only one who can bring us refuge. And, Lord, help us desire you more than anything else in life. Lord, we love you!

May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)

….AND MAY WE ALL PRACTICE THIS WITH ONE ANOTHER.

"Bring me out of prison so I can thank you. The godly will crowd around me, for you treat me kindly.” Sounds prophetic!😊
