In this song of praise, David reminds his people that the Lord is on their side. Here’s the psalm in its entirety: “If the Lord had not been on our side – let Israel now say – if the Lord had not been on our side when people rose up against us, they would have swallowed us alive because of their burning anger against us. The waters would have engulfed us; a torrent would have overwhelmed us. Yes, the raging waters of their fury would have overwhelmed our very lives.
Blessed be the Lord, who did not let their teeth tear us apart! We escaped like a bird from a hunter’s trap. The trap is broken, and we are free! Our help is from the Lord, who made the heavens and the earth.” (Psalm 124)
Lord, thank you for your Word today! Let us never forget what you have done for us. Let us continually bless you with our words and actions for the help you provide us daily. And, Lord, help us be still, knowing that you will never leave our side. We love you!
May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)
