Psalm 119 - Reflection 2

As discussed in Monday’s lesson, we are taking time to digest Psalm 119 because it is so long. Therefore, if you have not read Monday's lesson on Psalm 119, you will want to do that first.

In this middle third of Psalm 119, the psalmist exclaims, “Lord, you are mine!” (Psalm 119:54) He goes on promising to obey God’s Word without lingering. He actually says he will hurry to obey God’s commands. And even when his enemies are hunting him without a cause, he will not abandon the Lord’s commands, because it is those commands that sustain him and give him joy. He also says, “Though the wicked hide along the way to kill me, I will quietly keep my mind on your decree” (Psalm 119:95) Wow…we don’t have to get outraged; we don’t have to fight back; we don’t have to worry and be filled with anxiety; all we have to do is QUIETLY keep our mind on God’s Word. The reverence this psalmist has for God’s word is amazing! He talks about how it is sweeter than honey; it’s a lamp for his feet and a light for his path, and he thinks about it all day long. Wow!

Lord, thank you for Psalm 119! Help us revere your Word like this psalmist. Help us recognize how powerful, nurturing, protective, and joyful your Word is. And, Lord, help us boldly claim you as ours! Lord, we love you!

May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)

….AND MAY WE ALL PRACTICE THIS WITH ONE ANOTHER.
