Proverbs 20

In this chapter, Solomon continues with character-building lessons. We all know individuals who, seemingly, love to argue and fight. Here’s what Solomon says about them: “Avoiding a fight is a mark of honor; only fools insist on quarreling.”

There is a caption in my bible titled, “Character” that references another verse in this chapter. This is what it says, “Our conduct is a revelation of our character: When we do evil, it is a dead giveaway that we are nurturing evil within us. While conduct is not the same as character, it grows out of who we really are and is one of the best indicators of what kind of character we have. Luke 6:44 tells us we know a tree by its fruit. The “fruit” of our character is our conduct.” (Wow! Who we are as individuals (character) plays out in our actions, our decisions, our conduct (fruit we produce). There is a saying I’ve heard often…”When people show you who they are, believe them the first time.”)

Read the rest of Proverbs 20 for yourself, and identify any other life lessons that may shape your character.

Lord, thank you for your Word today! Help us carry ourselves honorably. Help us avoid foolish behavior, recognizing that what we say and do is a reflection of the spirit within us; therefore, Lord, shape us to have a spirit that mirrors YOU. Lord, we love you!

May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)

….AND MAY WE ALL PRACTICE THIS WITH ONE ANOTHER.
