Numbers 8 - Preparing the Lamps

In Chapter 8, God informs Aaron, the High Priest, to position the seven lamps in the lampstand so their light shines forward. In the book of Exodus, God instructs Moses to build the Tabernacle to specific requirements, along with its furnishings. The lampstand was one of the furnishings, and God instructed it and its accessories to be made of 75 pounds of pure gold, and placed on the south side of the Ark of the Covenant (Ten Commandments).

The majority of this chapter focuses on the dedication of the Levites to the Lord in the presence of all the Israel people. God chose the Levites as His people. He states, “Of all the people of Israel, the Levites are reserved for me. I have claimed them for myself in place of all the firstborn sons of the Israelites; I have taken the Levites as their substitutes.”(Numbers 8:16)

From my understanding, during the exodus from Egypt, God was so displeased with the firstborn because they were so wicked and disobedient that He wanted to destroy them. Moses, however, pleaded with God to spare their lives and He did. God, therefore, has chosen the Levites as His people, and they will service the Tabernacle.

Lord, thank you for your Word today! Help us to be obedient and grateful, so you never have a reason to be displeased with us. We love you!

“May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)

….AND MAY WE ALL PRACTICE THIS WITH ONE ANOTHER.
