Numbers 3 - Levites Appointed for Service

In chapter 3, God solidifies the role of the Levites to the Tabernacle. Aaron, Moses’ older brother, was selected by God along with Aaron’s sons to serve as priests to the Israelites. God assigned the Levites to serve as assistants to Aaron and his sons to carry out duties regarding the Tabernacle. The Levites were comprised of 3 clans, the Gershon, Kohath, and Merari families. God instructed Moses to take a census of the tribe of Levi, counting all males one month or older. The Geshonites totaled 7,500 and were responsible for the tent coverings of the Tabernacle, along with the curtains of the courtyard surrounding the Tabernacle. The Kohathites totaled 8,600, and they were responsible for the care of the sanctuary which included the Ark, table, lampstand, and altars. 6,200 males one month or older made up the Merarite clan. They were responsible for the care of the frames supporting the Tabernacle, along with the posts, bases, pegs, and cords of the courtyard.

“Thank you, Lord! Help us put on your armour, the breastplate of righteousness, the helmet of salvation, the sword (your Word)....” This was part of my prayer this morning.

We know we don’t have to fight because the battle is not ours, it’s the Lord’s, so what’s our responsibility in the fight? I was praying this morning requesting his help with the armour, and God spoke to me and said....”So you can be still and slow to anger”. Wow...God is so good! I’ve asked God to help me put on His armour each time I pray, and have never received that response. Obviously, that Word was for me. Sometimes when we’re in the “fight”, battling with a loved one, colleague, or friend, we just need to slow our emotions down. Those emotions often lead to some unwanted actions. God is responsible for the actions. All we need....is to be still and let Him work.

Lord, thank you for your Word today!!!

“May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)
