Numbers 24 - Balaam’s Prophecies

Chapter 23 ends with Balak requesting another prophecy from Balaam. So in this chapter, Balaam honors his request, but because Balaam has realized that God has already spoken and blessed the people of Israel, Balaam looks out towards the Israelites camped by the riverside, and delivers another prophecy inspired by the spirit of God.

“This is the prophecy of Balaam son of Beor, the prophecy of the man whose eyes see clearly, who hears the words of God, who sees a vision from the Almighty, who falls down with eyes wide open: How beautiful are your tents, O Jacob; how lovely are your homes, O Israel! They spread before me like groves of palms, like fruitful gardens by the riverside. They are like aloes planted by the Lord, like cedars beside the waters. Water will gush out in buckets; their offspring are supplied with all they need. Their king will be greater than Agag; their kingdom will be exalted. God brought them up from Egypt, drawing them along like wild ox. He devours all the nations that oppose him; breaking their bones in pieces, shooting them with arrows. Like a lion, Israel crouches and lies down; like a lioness, who dares to arouse her? Blessed is everyone who blesses you, O Israel, and cursed is everyone who curses you.” (Numbers 24:3-9)

Obviously, King Balak is furious and tells Balaam to get out of his land and go back home. He said in verse 11, “I had planned to reward you richly, but the Lord has kept you from your reward.” Balaam replies, “Don’t you remember what I told your messengers? I said, “Even if Balak were to give me a palace filled with silver and gold, I am powerless to do anything against the will of the Lord.” I told you that I could say only what the Lord says!” (Numbers 24:12-13)

Balaam was bold! He continues by saying, “Now I am returning to my own people. But first let me tell you what the Isreaeliltes will do to your people in the future.” (Numbers 24:14) Wow...that is cruel! I’m surprised King Balak did not kill him on the spot, but Balaam delivered his final prophecy and returned home.

Wow...another example of God covering His people (us). If God is for us, who can ever be against us! (Romans 8:31) What side are you on? I want to be on God’s side...Team God!!!

Lord, thank you for your Word today! Help us commit to you! Help us choose you as our Lord and Savior so you will continue to choose us. We love you!

“May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)

….AND MAY WE ALL PRACTICE THIS WITH ONE ANOTHER.
