Numbers 10 - The Silver Trumpets

In chapter 10, God informs Moses to make two trumpets for summoning the people to assemble, and for signaling when it was time to break camp. “When both trumpets are blown, the people will know that they are to gather before you at the entrance of the Tabernacle. But if only one is blown, then only the leaders of the tribes of Israel will come to you” (Numbers 10:3-4). Only the priests, Aaron’s descendants, are allowed to blow the trumpets. God went on to explain that when the Israelites go to war, they will sound the alarm with the trumpets so the Lord will remember them and rescue them from their enemies. Blowing the trumpets in times of gladness, at festivals, and for offerings were also expected by the Lord to remind Him of the covenant He has with the Israelites.

The rest of the chapter highlights the Israelites leaving Sinai. Sinai is the location, as explained in the book of Exodus, where Moses left the people two or three different times, and remained towards the top of Mount Sinai for 40 days and 40 nights to speak with God. It was during this time that the Ten Commandments were made. Now God was leading them away from Sinai. One day, the cloud lifted from above the Tabernacle of the Covenant, moved across the land for three days, and stopped in the wilderness of Paran. Understanding the movement of the cloud, Moses gave the order to break camp and move forward in stages. The sound of the trumpet signaled when the tribes needed to break camp and move. The chapter details the specific order in which each tribe traveled.

Lord, thank you for your Word today! Help us see when you are moving on our behalf, when you are directing the path in which we should follow, and then help us to establish our faith, so we can TRUST in you and ACCEPT your direction. We love you!

“May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)

….AND MAY WE ALL PRACTICE THIS WITH ONE ANOTHER.
