Joshua 12 - Kings Defeated East of the Jordan

Chapter 12 is a summary of the kings and territories the Israelites defeated on the east and west side of the Jordan River. The two kings on the east side of the Jordan were King Sihon of the Amorites and King Og of Bashan. “Their territory extended from the Arnon Gorge to Mount Hermon and included all the land east of the Jordan Valley.” (Joshua 12:1) Moses and the Israelites had defeated King Sihon and King Og, and gave the land to the tribes of Reuben, Gad, and half of Manasseh.

Joshua and the Israelite armies defeated and destroyed a total of 31 kings and their cities on the west side of the Jordan, “...from Baal-gad in the valley of Lebanon to Mount Halak, which leads up to Seir. (Joshua allotted this land to the tribes of Israel as their inheritance, including the hill country, the western foothills, the Jordan Valley, the mountain slopes, the Judean wilderness, and the Negev. The people who lived in this region were the Hittites, the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites.)” (Joshua 12:7-8)

The chapter ends with a list of the kings Joshua and the Israelites defeated, beginning with the king of Jericho and ending with the king of Tirzah.

Lord, thank you for your Word today! You have reminded us how loyal you’ve been to the Israelites, and as a result, how loyal you’ve been to us. Help us treasure the love you give us every second of each day! We love you!

May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)

….AND MAY WE ALL PRACTICE THIS WITH ONE ANOTHER.
