Isaiah 33 - A Message about Assyria

In this chapter, Isaiah discusses the destruction that awaits Assyria, and he indicates that those who will survive this destruction are those who fear the Lord and do right in the sight of the Lord. Here’s how the chapter begins: “Destruction is certain for you Assyrians, who have destroyed everything around you but have never felt destruction yourselves. You expect others to respect their promises to you, while you betray your promises to them. Now you, too, will be betrayed and destroyed!

But Lord, be merciful to us, for we have waited for you. (Yes, Lord! Help us wait on you! You continually show us that when we wait for your guidance you are there for us! Lord, thank you!) Be our strength each day and our salvation in times of trouble. The enemy runs at the sound of your voice. When you stand up, the nations flee! Just as locusts strip the fields and vines, so Jerusalem will strip the fallen army of Assyria!

Though the Lord is very great and lives in heaven, he will make Jerusalem his home of justice and righteousness. In that day he will be your sure foundation, providing a rich store of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge. The fear of the Lord is the key to this treasure.” (Isaiah 33:1-6) (Yes, Lord! Help us continually fear, revere, and love you!)

The chapter continues and ends with the blessings offered to those who remain righteous. “The sinners among my people shake with fear. “Which one of us,” they cry, “can live here in the presence of this all-consuming fire?” The ones who can live here are those who are honest and fair, who reject making a profit by fraud, who stay far away from bribes, who refuse to listen to those who plat murder, who shut their eyes to all enticement to do wrong. These are the ones who will dwell on high. The rocks of the mountains will be their fortress of safety. Food will be supplied to them, and they will have water in abundance.” (Isaiah 33:14-16) (Yes, Lord! Help us live for you.)

As usual, read the rest of the chapter for yourself, draw some conclusions, make some connections, and strive to deepen your knowledge.

Lord, thank you for your Word today! Help us remain fearful of you…respecting and loving you continuously. Help us be righteous and learn to wait on you, for doing so will secure your amazing blessings. Lord, we love you!

May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)

….AND MAY WE ALL PRACTICE THIS WITH ONE ANOTHER.
