Isaiah 30 - Judah’s Worthless Treaty with Egypt

In this chapter, the Lord assures doom for his rebellious people, but Isaiah confirms that He is a God of love and compassion for those who trust and wait on Him. Here’s how the chapter begins: “Destruction is certain for my rebellious children,” says the Lord. “You make plans that are contrary to my will. You weave a web of plans that are not from my Spirit, thus piling up your sins. For without consulting me, you have gone down to Egypt to find help. You have put your trust in Pharaoh for his protection. But in trusting Pharaoh, you will be humiliated and disgraced. For though his power extends to Zoan and Hanes, it will all turn out to your shame. He will not help you even one little bit.” (Isaiah 30:1-5) (Lord, help us trust only in you, consulting and seeking you in all of our decisions!)

The text continues and indicates that calamity will fall on the people of Judah for their trust in man instead of God, but then…”The sovereign Lord, the Holy One of Israel, says, “Only in returning to me and waiting for me will you be saved. In quietness and confidence is your strength. But you would have none of it. You said, ‘No, we will get our help from Egypt.” (Isaiah 30:15-16) (Wow! How stubborn we can be! The Lord says, “In quietness and confidence is your strength.” That is a powerful statement; one we should incorporate in our lives daily.)

In the rest of the chapter, Isaiah speaks of the blessings for the people of Judah if they, simply, come to Him. “But the Lord still waits for you to come to him so he can show you his love and compassion. For the Lord is a faithful God. Blessed are those who wait for him to help them.” (Isaiah 30:18) (Wow…isn’t God good!?! Even in our complete rebellion, God continues to love on us!))

As usual, read the rest of the chapter for yourself, draw some conclusions, make some connections, and strive to deepen your knowledge.

Lord, thank you for your Word today! Help us trust in and consult you! Give us the discipline to wait on you, for you are the only one who can save, restore, and take care of us. Thank you for your amazing love. Lord, we love you!

May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)

….AND MAY WE ALL PRACTICE THIS WITH ONE ANOTHER.
