Isaiah 10

Chapter 10 is a continuation of the previous chapter. It begins where chapter 9 ended, as the Lord continues to be angry with His people, and promises destruction for the unjust. The chapter then shifts to the judgment of Assyria, the nation God uses to enslave His people. It provides a great lesson to us all, as it teaches us to never forget where our strength and power comes from. Notice how the king of Assyria boasts about himself in the following verses: “After the Lord has used the king of Assyria to accomplish his purposes in Jerusalem, he will turn against the king of Assyria and punish him – for he is proud and arrogant. He boasts, “By my own power and wisdom I have won these wars. By my own strength I have captured many lands, destroyed their kings, and carried off their treasures. By my greatness I have robbed their nests of riches and gathered up kingdoms as a farmer gathers eggs. No one can even flap a wing against me or utter a peep of protest.” (verse 12-14) (Wow! How quickly we forget God’s hand in our lives. Check out how God informs Isaiah to respond to the king’s comments in the next paragraph.)

“Can the ax boast greater power than the person who uses it? Is the saw greater than the person who saws? Can a whip strike unless a hand is moving it? Can a cane walk by itself?” (verse 15) (Yes, Lord! We can’t do anything without you!)

Read the rest of the chapter for yourself and learn how God punishes the Assyrians for their proud and arrogant attitude.

Lord, thank you for your Word today! Help us recognize that our power comes from you; our wisdom comes from you; all of our successes come from you! Lord, we are nothing without you! Give us a humble spirit. Lord, we love you!

May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)

….AND MAY WE ALL PRACTICE THIS WITH ONE ANOTHER.
