Ezekiel 33 - Ezekiel as Israel’s Watchman

In this chapter, the Lord appoints Ezekiel as watchman over Israel.  Here’s how the chapter begins:  “Once again a message came to me from the Lord:  “Son of man, give your people this message.  When I bring an army against a country, the people of that land choose a watchman.  When the watchman sees the enemy coming, he blows the alarm to warn the people.  Then if those who hear the alarm refuse to take action – well, it is their own fault if they die.  They heard the warning but wouldn’t listen, so the responsibility is theirs.  If they had listened to the warning, they could have saved their lives.  But if the watchman sees the enemy coming and doesn’t sound the alarm to warn the people, he is responsible for their deaths.  They will die in their sins, but I will hold the watchman accountable.”

“Now, son of man, I am making you a watchman for the people of Israel.  Therefore, listen to what I say and warn them for me.  If I announce that some wicked people are sure to die and you fail to warn them about changing their ways, then they will die in their sins, but I will hold you responsible for their deaths.  But if you warn them to repent and they don’t repent, they will die in their sins, but you will not be held responsible.” (Ezekiel 33:1-9)

Read the rest of the chapter for yourself, as the Lord explains in His message that He takes no pleasure in destroying the wicked, and He wants them to, simply, turn from their wicked ways.  And if they do, they will live!

Lord, thank you for your Word today!  Thank you for the mercy and grace you continually provide to us!  Thank you for giving us opportunity after opportunity to get it right!  Help us all use our voices and platforms to share your message.  Lord, you are amazing, and we love you!

May the Lord bless you and protect you.  May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you.  May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)

….AND MAY WE ALL PRACTICE THIS WITH ONE ANOTHER.
