It’s the day before a huge event in your life, maybe the most important day in your life...a new career choice, a new marriage, relocating to a new city or state. Whatever it is, tomorrow will be new and filled with uncertainties. But someone you trust sits down with you, and gives you some wise advice and helps you prepare for your new journey. You listen as this person reminds you of the events that led you to this point, and he/she concludes with this simple recommendation…”trust God, obey God, make the right choices, be faithful in your new experience.” (Touch Point Bible)
“This is the message of the book of Deuteronomy. Forty years earlier Moses had led a loosely knit band of slaves out of Egypt, an experience that was graced with miracle after miracle from God. Now they are at the threshold of the Promised Land, and in a series of short talks, Moses reminds the people where they have been, what they have learned, and what God expects of them as they enter the new land that God has promised them.” (Touch Point Bible)
However, the parents of many of those listening to Moses were now dead and could not enter the Promised Land because that was their punishment for complaining and failing to trust God. “Even Moses could not enter the land because he, the leader, had disobeyed at a critical moment. He was speaking from experience.” (Touch Point Bible)
The question now before us is...will this new generation listen, or will they ignore Moses’ advice, like before, and miss out on many of God’s blessings?
How does this apply to us? What would you do? Perhaps you are experiencing a significant event in your life. Let Moses be that friend in your life, as God speaks through him, to guide and prepare you for all of life’s challenges.
Lord, thank you for your Word today! Help us to recognize when you are speaking to us and to be open to your counsel so we can live our best life. We love you!
“May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)
….AND MAY WE ALL PRACTICE THIS WITH ONE ANOTHER.
