Deuteronomy 23 - Regulations concerning Worship

In this chapter, Moses discusses regulations for worship and other miscellaneous regulations. He begins, “If a man’s testicles are crushed or his penis is cut off, he may not be included in the assembly of the Lord.” (Deuteronomy 23:1) Oh my goodness...what is that about!?!

He continues, “Those of illegitimate birth and their descendants for ten generations may not be included in the assembly of the Lord. No Ammonites or Moabites, or any of their descendants for ten generations, may be included in the assembly of the Lord. These nations did not welcome you with food and water when you came out of Egypt. Instead, they tried to hire Balaam son of Beor from Pethor in Aram-naharaim to curse you. (But the Lord your God would not listen to Balaam. He turned the intended curse into a blessing because the Lord your God loves you.) You must never, as long as you live, try to help the Ammonites or the Moabites in any way.” (Deuteronomy 23:2-6)

Moses ends the worship regulations informing the Israelites not to detest the Edomites because they are their relatives, and not to detest the Egyptians and allow the third generation to enter the assembly of God.

Moses ends this chapter sharing several miscellaneous regulations concerning, war against enemies, ceremonially defiled men, defecating procedures, escaped slaves, prostitution, charging interest on loans, making vows, and eating from a neighbor’s crop.

Lord, thank you for your Word today! You are a mighty God...thank you for loving us! We love you!

“May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)

….AND MAY WE ALL PRACTICE THIS WITH ONE ANOTHER.
