1 Chronicles 27 - Military Commanders and Divisions

This chapter highlights some of the leaders and their responsibilities in David’s kingdom. It focuses on supervisors of his army divisions and other kingdom roles. The chapter begins, “This is the list of Israelite generals and captains, and their officers, who served the king by supervising the army divisions that were on duty each month of the year. Each division served for one month and had twenty-four thousand troops.” (1 Chronicles 27:1)

The chapter continues with a list of 12 commanders, each leading a division for one of the 12 months. It starts with Jashobeam, commander of the first division during the first month, and ends with Heled, the leader of the 12th division on duty during the 12th month.

It then highlights the leaders of the tribes of Israel, followed by an interesting fact about the census David took. It states, “Joab began the census but never finished it because the anger of God broke out against Israel. The final total was never recorded in King David’s official records.” (1 Chronicles 27:24)

The chapter ends with names of more officials and their responsibilities, ranging from being in charge of grapes for wine to taking care of King David’s sheep.

Lord, thank you for your Word today! Help us become loyal, obedient, good-listening servants to you, so your anger never breaks out against us. We love you!

May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)

….AND MAY WE ALL PRACTICE THIS WITH ONE ANOTHER.
