1 Chronicles 19 - David Defeats the Ammonites

This chapter recounts the entire events of 2 Samuel 10. There are very few distinctions between the two chapters, so as usual, read it for yourself, see how this chapter aligns with our lesson in 2 Samuel, draw some conclusions, make some connections, and strive to deepen your knowledge.

An example of learning from the chapters after reading them both is demonstrated in the following verses: “If the Arameans are too strong for me, then come over and help me,” Joab told his brother. “And if the Ammonites are too strong for you, I will help you. Be courageous! Let us fight bravely to save our people and the cities of our God. May the Lord’s will be done.” (1 Chronicles 12-13; 2 Samuel 10:11-12)

Those two verses resonated with me after reading it in 1 Chronicles. I realized that Joab and the rest of David’s army were not taking their enemies for granted even though they were the most powerful army in the land. Joab recognized that they were not standing on their own power, but on the power of God and His will. I did not make that connection when we studied that chapter in the book of 2 Samuel.

Lord, thank you for your Word today! Thank you for helping us recognize that our strength is nothing without you. We love you!

May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)

….AND MAY WE ALL PRACTICE THIS WITH ONE ANOTHER.
