1 Chronicles 13 - David Attempts to Move the Ark

In this chapter, David delays moving the Ark of God to the City of David after the Lord is angered. The Chapter begins, “David consulted with all his officials, including the generals and captains of his army. Then he addressed the entire assembly of Israel as follows: “If you approve and if it is the will of the Lord our God, let us send messages to all the Israelites throughout the land, including the priests and Levites in their towns and pasturelands. Let us invite them to come and join us. It is time to bring back the Ark of our God, for we neglected it during the reign of Saul.” (1 Chronicles 13:1-3)

2 Samuel 6 tells the remaining story of this move; therefore, I will not recount the events as they are listed in this chapter. Please refer to our lesson in 2 Samuel 6, verses 1-11.

I included the initial paragraph of this chapter because the events prior to the actual move of the Ark were not discussed in 2 Samuel. It was nice to learn in this chapter that David invited all of Israel to join them in this historic move. It was also nice to see David acknowledging that this move would only happen if it was God’s will. However, it turned out not to be God’s will that particular day. This teaches us that it is not enough to simply acknowledge God as we process decisions in our lives. We must also seek guidance from Him and process those decisions WITH God.

Lord, thank you for your Word today! Help us seek your guidance in all that we do. We love you!

May the Lord bless you and protect you. May the Lord smile on you and be gracious to you. May the Lord show you his favor and give you his peace.” (Numbers 6:24-26)

….AND MAY WE ALL PRACTICE THIS WITH ONE ANOTHER.
